Olive Ssembuze

Olive’s father is from Uganda, and her mother is Swiss. After her dance studies in Zurich she emigrated to New York, in order to continue her career as a dancer.

She worked for different dance companies as well as performing in shows with Tina Turner and Ricky Martin as a dancer.

As a balance to the demanding activities on stage Olive discovered Hatha Yoga. In 1995 she began her studies with Gordon Sharpe, training as a Yoga teacher. While still pursuing her performing activities she taught Yoga courses at the Ballet School of New York, which were particularly focussed on the needs of dancers.

In order to further deepen her knowledge and practice, she attended Teacher Trainings and Workshops in New York and Los Angeles, including among others Vinyasa flow Yoga with Annie Carpenter, which strongly influenced Olives personal style. She attended further Teacher Training with Bryan Kest and Vinnie Marino in Santa Monica. Olive completed the multiyear Yoga Works Teacher Program (Los Angeles) and is a member of the “International Yoga Alliance”.

After ten years in America Olive returned Switzerland where she has built up a well deserved name for herself in the yoga community as an exceptional teacher. In addition to teaching, she has led retreats in Brazil, Provence and various locations in Switzerland.
